Hillsboro’s Wright does it all in girls’ track Dream Team season

(Hillsboro) Maya Wright proved that track & field literally runs in the family in her junior season with the Hillsboro Hawks.

Wright joined her brother Sam on the Regional Radio Dream Team with a tremendous all-around year, competing in 6 total events and qualifying for state in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.

She says, while she’s hoping to continue to show her versatility in the future, she’s happy to earn this honor from the coaches now.

Wright won conference, district and sectional championships in both hurdles races.

But she says there was a learning curve when it came to the longer of the two.

Wright also competed in the 200-meter dash, the long jump, triple jump and the javelin toss.

But she says she doesn’t accomplish anything without her family at home and her extended Hillsboro family.

Along with a medal at the Class 4 championships in the hurdles, Wright helped the Hawks’ 4-by-400-meter relay team reach state this season.
