Influenza season getting worse in Missouri

(Jefferson County) Influenza season is here, and it’s already a busier start to the flu season than we’ve seen in years past.

Dr. Chandra Dommaraju is an infectious disease specialist at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. We asked him what he is seeing with the number of flu patients at the hospital.

Dr. “Domm” says the flu season is starting earlier and stronger this year.

In addition Dr. Domm believes the flu season will continue to get worse as we head into the winter season.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says flu is widespread across the state with the most cases occurring among those between 5-24 years old.

The hardest hit region is northwest Missouri followed by the eastern part of the state.
