Inmate Death at Potosi Prison

(Mineral Point) An inmate at the Potosi Correctional Center has died.

A news release from the Missouri Department of Corrections says 49-year-old Joseph Bowens was pronounced dead Saturday at Mercy Hospital Jefferson.

Bowens was serving a life sentence without parole for possession of a controlled substance, persistant D.W.I. offender, delivery of a controlled substance at a county jail and second degree robbery all from Mississippi County.

Plus, he was also convicted of first degree murder, armed criminal action and first degree robbery out of the City of St. Louis.

Bowens was first sent to prison in January of 2010.

According to the Department of Corrections, Bowens died from what they call ‘apparent natural causes’.
