It’s Time to go Morel Mushroom Hunting

(Farmington) Outdoorsmen can’t wait to get out the house for opening day of spring turkey season in Missouri.

Opening Day is April 20th but there is something else you can do right now in the Ozark woods where you can easily practice Covid-19 social distancing guidelines.

Hayley Honeycutt, a conservation agent for St. Francois County explains.

Reynolds County Conservation Agent Kaleb Neece agrees with Honeycutt.

Morels seem to pop up overnight.

They usually grow in 24 to 48 hours.

You can look for morels in moist woods, river bottoms and on south-facing slopes.

They’re often found near dead elm trees, in old orchards or burned areas.
