Jefferson College Women’s Basketball Players Chiara de Virgilio and Giana Copeland Join Viking Voices

(HILLSBORO) The Jefferson College women’s basketball team went 3-0 over the holiday break to push its record to 9-9 as the Vikings get set for Mineral Area College next Wednesday on KJFF and KREI. It will be the first game since December 20th when the Vikes beat Southeastern Illinois 72-61.

Head Coach Ashley McGee was on Viking Voices Wednesday on KJFF along with players Chiara de Virgilio and Giana Copeland. Coach McGee addressed those two and their performances lately.

Chiara agrees with Coach McGee regarding the “being more aggressive” comment and continues to work on that with fellow point guard Tyra Brown.

In 13.3 minutes played per game, Chiara is averaging 9.1 points and 3.4 assists. As for Giana Copeland, she’s happy that Coach McGee is letting her be herself.

Copeland is averaging 6.1 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. Copeland added that she and the rest of the team are ready to prove to themselves and to the fans that they are the real deal as they get ready for the second half of the season.

The first game of the new year for the Vikings will be on the road in Park Hills next Wednesday against the MAC Cardinals at 5 p.m. The action can be heard right here on KJFF and also on AM 800 KREI beginning at 4:45.
