Jefferson County Covid-19 update and pediatric vaccines

(Hillsboro) The Jefferson County Health Department reports the area saw a slight increase in Covid-19 cases compared to the week before. The week 43 update reported 348 new cases, which is up by a few from the previous week. Health Department Director Kelley Vollmar is still satisfied with the current trends.

Last week, the Pfizer vaccine for those children ages 5 to 11 was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Vollmar says while they currently don’t have that vaccine in hand, it is available at other locations.

On Tuesday, the Jefferson County Health Department reported 92 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive cases to 33,230 since March of last year. The current active cases is 486, and there have been 346 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
