(Jefferson County) The number of calls for service for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was down in 2020 compared to previous years. Grant Bissell is a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. He goes over the official numbers.

According to Bissell, after looking at the previous years fluctuation in calls, the difference in call volume is fairly average.

However, even with the numbers of calls for service being down in the county last year, the number of vehicle thefts was up.

In 2019 the sheriff’s office reported 363 stolen vehicles in which 304 were unlocked or the keys were taken by someone known to the victim.

In addition, 480 cases of theft from a motor vehicle was reported last year.

Other end or year stats from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to 974 domestic violence calls compared to 914 in 2019.

The sheriff’s office detective bureau investigated 3 homicides last year which is the same number of murders in 2019 and two fewer in 2018.
