(FESTUS) The Jefferson girls track and field team conquered the Class 2 District 2 championship on Saturday with 239 points.

There were 16 individual events and three team events that were scored, with the Lady Blue Jays qualifying at least one athlete per event and finishing 1st in all three relays. Head coach Alex Rouggly is really proud of his group and their maturity through some difficult situations.

Taya Allen, Abi Chipps, Anna Heacock, and Jordan Heacock remain some of the more consistent runners on the team, with all four qualifying for Sectionals in two events, but freshman Kierston Vandeven is making a name for herself as well.

Coach Rouggly knows that both Sectionals and State will be tough on his runners.

Jefferson had six 1st place finishes in the runs and three 1st place finishes in the jumps. Ashley and Maddie Edmond finished 1-2 in the pole vault and Alexis Armstrong got 1st in the javelin. This was the 6th district title for Jefferson girls track and field. The Class 2 Sectional 1 meet will take place on Saturday in Park Hills.

For the full interview with Coach Rouggly about the girls and the boys team, who finished 3rd with 122 points, tune in to KJFF Sports Talk Tuesday afternoon at 4:10.
