Jefferson, Herculaneum start I-55 Conference play with JeffCo Friday Night Football on KJFF

(Herculaneum) A pair of I-55 Conference rivals meet in their league opener this week on Jefferson County Friday Night Football on KJFF.

The Jefferson Bluejays and Herculaneum Blackcats will collide Friday, each looking to earn redemption from a loss last week.

Despite a strong performance to open the season, Jefferson fell at home 37-21 to Cuba last Friday.

But the Blue Jays only trailed by seven at halftime.

Head coach Alex Rouggly says the message for his team is simple: finish what you start.

Jefferson will be looking for a better performance on defense in particular.

The Bluejays have a pair of all-state players on that side of the ball in seniors Colby Ott and Dawson Jakoubek.

Rouggly says his defense has to worry about stopping the run this week.

Herculaneum has lost both of its games at the start of this season.

Blackcats head coach Cody Hunter says his team has to work on avoiding crucial mistakes.

Herculaneum does have a talented trio of new running backs in senior Cole Myers, junior Tristan Watson and sophomore Mike Moloney.

Hunter says, while they’re inexperienced, his top weapons are talented.

Jefferson has won six out of 8 meetings with Herculaneum.

Coverage of this edition of the Bluejays and Blackcats begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show Friday evening at 6 leading up to kickoff at 7 on AM 1400 KJFF.
