Judge Wes Yates begins stint as Associate Judge

Carl “Wes” Yates was sworn in on Tuesday to become the new Associate Judge in Division 15 in the 23rd Judicial Circuit. Yates was appointed to replace the honorable Shannon Dougherty after she was appointed to Circuit Judge in January to replace the retired Troy Cardona. Yates spoke about what types of cases he will be handling.

Yates says he did serve as a Circuit Judge a few years ago before losing an election, so he has experience in the 23rd Judicial Circuit.

Yates now leaves his position as the Jefferson County Counselor, and Deputy Counselor Jason Cortis will fill in until a replacement is found. Yates will fill the term for the next four years.
