MAAA Conference Tournament Quarterfinal Day 1 Preview

(Park Hills) On Monday, we begin our coverage of the MAAA conference tournament with four quarterfinal matchups. You can listen to the games on J98 beginning at 3:45 this (Monday) afternoon.

First up are the girls quarterfinals with the top seed, and 7th ranked in Class Four, Central Rebels taking on nine seed Arcadia Valley. Central is 17-3 this season and won a share of the large-school division regular season crown. Central coach Josh Mapes says his team needs to play with confidence as the top seed.

Arcadia Valley are 5-14 after the Tigers defeated eight seed Bismarck 46-41 in the first round on Saturday.

Next on the girls side are the four seed Fredericktown Blackcats going against the five seed North County Raiders. Fredericktown has an overall record of 10-9 and 3-1 in conference play with one game getting postponed due to inclement weather. Fredericktown coach Micah Reutzel says his team needs to take it one game at a time.

North County beat 12 seed Kingston on Saturday 58-9. The Raiders are 10-9 on the year. Fredericktown beat North County 47-45 on January 19th.

Then we begin the boys quarterfinals. Central has the top seed on that side as well with a 17-2 record and are 4-0 in the conference. The Rebels will take on eight seed Farmington. The Knights are 8-13 after beating nine seed Fredericktown on Saturday by a score of 53-41. Central beat Farmington by 39 points a week and a half ago, but Farmington coach Garrett Callahan believes in his young guys to play their best.

Our last game of the night will pit the four seed Valle Catholic Warriors against the five seed North County Raiders. Valle Catholic are 13-6 and finished second in the small-school division after falling to West County Thursday night. Warriors coach Tyler Search says his team stands by a strong message.

North County are 10-9 after defeating 12 seed Bismarck 61-39 on Saturday.
