Meadow Heights edges Crystal City in baseball sectionals on KJFF

(Patton) The Crystal City Hornets came up just short to the Meadow Heights Panthers, falling 6-5 Monday in the Class 2 state sectionals on KJFF.

It was Meadow Heights who got the initial lead.

Crystal City would respond in the third inning, tying the game at 3 after a big swing by sophomore outfielder Cyle Schaumburg got a rally started.

But the Panthers would take the lead back in the very next half-inning, and they added what would prove to be essential insurance in the sixth.

The Hornets would make a final push, starting with a Nate Pruneau triple and Ian Kirn RBI single.

The tying and go-ahead runs got into scoring position with two out for Crystal City, but it was not to be.

Crystal City has a 3-game win streak snapped and ends the season with a record of 14-9.

Hornets first-year head coach Zach Weiss says his players bought in to his plan from day one.

Meadow Heights improves to 13-8 and will move on to the Class 2 state quarterfinals to play Holcomb Wednesday.
