(Jefferson City) The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an application filed by Ameren Missouri to implement a renewable energy standard rate adjustment mechanism charge on monthly bills of its electric customers.

The charge will appear as a separate item on electric bills.

The P.S.C. says the new charge is designed to recover costs associated with Missouri’s Renewable Energy Standard.

A renewable energy standard rate adjustment allows electric companies to adjust rates outside of a general electric rate case to reflect prudently incurred renewable energy standard costs such as solar and wind power.

These costs would be costs above renewable energy costs already included in the company’s base rates.

For a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month, the new charge will be 44-cents a month and is expected to take effect February 1st.

Ameren Missouri serves around 1.28 million electric customers.
