Nicholas Smoot sentenced to 25 years in prison

(Hillsboro) On Friday, Jefferson County Judge Brenda Stacy sentenced Nicholas Smoot of Hillsboro to 25 years in prison. Smoot was convicted in January of Murder 2nd and Domestic Assault 2nd. Those counts are to run concurrently. Smoot also received 5 years to the Armed Criminal Action which is to run consecutively to the Murder and Domestic Violence charge.

On December 19, 2019, Smoot assaulted his then-girlfriend by biting her. Smoot’s father, 53-years old Eric Smoot attempted to stop the assault. Smoot struck his father several times in the stomach with a golf club causing his death.
