(CEDAR HILL) The Northwest Girls Track and Field team is sending five individual members and one relay team to the Class 5 Sectionals this weekend after top-four finishes in the district meet.

Lions junior Megan Fortner will participate in the javelin and shot put events after taking first place in each one during districts. 12th-year head coach Glen House fully expects Fortner to advance on through to the state championships.

After an injury-plagued sophomore campaign for Kaitlyn Bell, coach House has seen an improvement throughout this season in her ability to run the 300-meter hurdles.

Jillian Thompson will join Bell in running the 300 meter hurdles at sectionals. Other events for the Lions are the high jump for Erica Schamel and Laine Bartelson along with the 4×400 meter relay team made up of Bell, Thompson, Jaime Lee and Mason Fitzgerald. The Class 5 Sectionals are Saturday in Kirkwood.

Listen to the full Glen House interview later today on AM 1400 KJFF with Sports Talk at 4:20.
