(Regional Radio) – The Valle Catholic volleyball team advanced to the Class 1 final four with two set victories Saturday on J-98 over Gideon and Lesterville. Valle dominated the first match over Gideon, 25-6, 25-16, to advance to the quarterfinal. The hosting Lesterville Bearcats won their first round match in three sets over Advance. After losing the first set 25-23, Lesterville took the second convincingly 25-16, and the third narrowly 25-23.

In the quarterfinal match, Valle took a contested first set 25-19, then assuming full control for a 25-12 second set.

Valle coach Nancy Fischer says a key adjustment gave them the big edge in the second set.

Valle advances to the final four Friday in Cape Girardeau with a record of 32-3-1, the best in Class 1. Lesterville ends their year at 25-8-2, but has plenty of excitement ahead with only one graduating senior in Maggie Vert.

As for other local volleyball teams, St. Pius has advanced to the final four in Class 2, getting two set victories over Bloomfield, then Metro. In Class 3, Ste. Genevieve was eliminated in round one by Lutheran South 2-0, and in Class 4, Farmington was knocked out in the first round by St. Joseph’s Academy in two sets.
