(Hillsboro) The Jefferson County Health Department is trying to rebound after alleged Sunshine Law violations after two separate meetings held last week. The first meeting held on Thursday afternoon included a vote by the board on an item not listed on the agenda, which was implementing a county-wide mask mandate at public businesses in which social distancing was not possible. 97th District Missouri State Representative Mary Elizabeth Coleman, who is a lawyer by trade, brought attention to those violations to the board on Friday.

Coleman says she had a discussion with Health Department Director Kelly Vollmar.

The Health Department then held an emergency meeting to rescind the mask mandate on Friday afternoon but also violated the Sunshine Law by not giving proper public notice.

As of now, the Jefferson County Health Department Board has not scheduled a board meeting to address the mask-mandate possibility.
