Ruble shines as St. Pius grinds past Grandview on KJFF

(Ditmer) It may not have been pretty, but the St. Pius Lancers gritted their teeth and pushed through an up-and-down night to beat the Grandview Eagles 22-12 Friday night on KJFF.

The game was scoreless for a quarter-and-a-half, with both defenses standing tall and both offenses combining for over 200 yards in penalties.

St. Pius finally got the scoring started thanks to senior running back Nate Ruble.

St. Pius found themselves with the ball but facing third-and-long late in the first half.

So the Lancers dug into their bag of tricks, and it paid off with a touchdown just before halftime.

Down 14-0 at the break, Grandview would not back down.

The Eagle offense finally hit a big play to star junior Chase Wilson.

St. Pius would only be up a score heading into the fourth quarter, but they turned to the senior star Ruble again for a crucial score.

Ruble finished with 185 yards from scrimmage and also had an interception on defense.

Lancers head coach Dan Oliver said the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game is a special talent that he’s happy to have on his side.

St. Pius wins its conference opener and improves to 2-1.

Grandview drops to 1-1 in the I-55 Conference and 2-1 overall.

The Eagles will host Russellville next week while the Lancers host Jefferson on AM 1400 KJFF.
