A southern Missouri soldier who was seriously injured while serving in Afghanistan has been presented with an American flag that was flown over the U-S Capitol.

Salem Congressman Jason Smith presented the flag to U-S Army Staff Sergeant Ian Ives, who’s from Cuba.

Smith brought another injured veteran with him to Walter Reed Hospital, to meet Ives.

Mast lost both of his legs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan, and Smith says Mast was a great inspiration to Ives.
Sergeant Ives’ family has been in Washington to support him, and Smith thanked them for their sacrifice.
