Salem Police Chief Retiring

(Salem) For a third of a century, Keith Steelman has made the safety of Salem residents one of his primary concerns.

On February 14th, he’ll turn in his badge and gun after 33 years on the force. Steelman spent the last 10 as police chief.

Chief Steelman has seen a myriad of changes in law enforcement over the years.

He says the most significant change is in the training of officers.

With police coming under increased scrutiny, Chief Steelman says the Salem Police Department has enjoyed great community support.

The second in command in the Salem Police Department, Major Marty Farrar is retiring on the same day as Chief Steelman.

Joe Chase will take over as police chief in the Dent County town.
