(STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.) – The Class 4 District 2 baseball tournament field will get whittled down to two teams Wednesday afternoon as the semifinals get underway on KREI. Semifinal #1 features the top-seeded Ste. Genevieve Dragons taking on the fourth-seeded Potosi Trojans. The Dragons are currently at 20-4 and received a first-round bye. Dragons coach Mike McDaniel said his team is rested for what he hopes is a deep playoff run.

Meanwhile, 7-12 Potosi will look to continue the momentum gained from an eight-inning walk-off victory over Festus on Monday. Trojans coach Steve McCoy said they will try to avenge an earlier regular season loss to the Dragons.

Potosi defeated Ste. Genevieve on this same stage last year in the district semifinals. The other game will pit the second-seeded North County Raiders against the third-seeded DeSoto Dragons. North County’s 5-2 win over Central in the first round of the tournament improved its record to 14-9-1. Raiders coach Chris McLain said he likes his team’s toughness down the stretch.

DeSoto notched a 5-4 victory over North County earlier in the season. Now at 11-9, Dragons coach Matt Buechting said his team’s focus should be on defense.

Game times are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon from Yanks Field in Ste. Genevieve. The Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show will begin at 1:45 p.m. on AM-800 KREI.
