(IMPERIAL) Football returns to KJFF Friday night as we open the season with the St. Pius Lancers visiting the Windsor Owls. Head coach Jerry Woods and the Lancers are coming off a 4-6, 2017 campaign which witnessed them shutting out Windsor in the opener, 28-0, eventually falling to Charleston in the first round of districts. Woods sees the defense making a difference this year.

Up from the JV squad is quarterback Carson Fischer, younger brother of graduate Elliott Fischer. Coach Woods says Carson has been working really hard to get ready for the season.

Windsor went winless last year in Alex DeMatteis’ first season as head coach. Entering year two, coach DeMatteis’ has had a decision to make all summer as to his starting quarterback. The candidates through training camp have been Nate Browning and Derek Williams.

When St. Pius defeated Windsor last year in the opening game, DeMatteis says the Lancers offered a different look defensively then in their jamboree. This time his guys are ready for anything.

Kickoff for St. Pius and Windsor is set for 7 pm Friday with the Fliegs Equipment Pregame show at 6 on Regional Radio. You can hear the game on AM 1400 KJFF with online streaming right at mymoinfo.com.
