A former Ste. Genevieve track and field star has continued that success in a big way at the collegiate level.

After a great career with the Dragons, Taylor Werner was a crucial part of helping the University of Arkansas to secure the 2019 NCAA indoor track team national championship. Werner was a part of the distance-medley relay team that got the Razorbacks on the board first on March 8th and earned fifth place and first-team All-American honors. Werner says running the fastest anchor leg of the event was a great feeling.

Werner, a junior, fell just short of an individual national title in the 3,000 meters, but she says knowing she had done so well and all but assured her team the championship was more than enough.

Werner says she was extremely grateful to have family and friends with her at both the conference and national championships.

Werner says she is considering competing at the Olympic level, but right now she’s concerned with the upcoming NCAA outdoor season. To hear the full interview with Taylor Werner, click play on the file below.
