Ste. Geneveive track star wins gold at AAU Olympics

A Ste. Genevieve track & field athlete earned national honors over the weekend.

Marysa Flieg was the champion and gold medal winner in the javelin toss for the 15-16 years age group at the AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Flieg had the top toss of 41.49 meters to just squeak past Camille Clay of Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Flieg describes the moment when she knew she had won.

Flieg says she didn’t get off to the start she wanted in competition at Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T, but she broke through on her last attempt.

Flieg also runs distance events in the spring for Ste. Genevieve High School. Flieg will be entering her junior year later this month.
