Steelville collides with Cuba, Grandview takes on Herculaneum in Class 3 District 3 girls semis

The only 2 tickets available in the Class 3 District 3 girls’ basketball championship will be punched Tuesday during the semifinals in Herculaneum.

The first game will pit the top-seeded Steelville Cardinals against the number-five seed Cuba Wildcats.

Cuba knocked off St. Pius 52-47 in the first round to improve to 14-13.

But Wildcats head coach Ryan Bobbit says Steelville poses quite the headache for a defense.

Steelville moved to 21-5 with a 49-17 win over Bourbon on Saturday.

Cardinals head coach Seth Collins says getting a chance to face a familiar foe with the season on the line should be exciting.

Semifinal number two features the other top-two seeds, as the Grandview Eagles take on the host Heruclanum Blackcats.
Grandview cruised past Jefferson in the opening round 55-24.

Eagles head coach Steve Noblitt says the challenge now is facing a conference rival on their home floor and blocking out the figurative and literal noise.

Herculaneum knocked off Kingston 69-37 back on Saturday.

Blackcats head coach Riley Blair says familiarity between these JCAA foes means the game comes down to who does more of what they do best.

Herculaneum edged out Grandview 34-33 back on February 7th.
Steelvile defeated Cuba 59-39 when they last met on January 27th.
Coverage of the Class 3 District 3 girls’ semifinals begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 6:15 Tuesday evening on AM 1400 KJFF.
