Transportation a Big Topic at Earthquake Summit in St. Louis Thursday

(St. Louis) Earthquake experts and various other officials from across the country will be in St. Louis Thursday for the Missouri Earthquake Summit.

Regional Radio spoke to Jeff Briggs earlier this week.

He’s Missouri’s earthquake director for the State Emergency Management Agency.

He says one subject they will look at closely is our state’s fragile transportation system which could possibly make things even worse if the New Madrid Seismic Zone ushers in a serious earthquake to southeast Missouri.

Briggs says finding the best escape routes will be tackled at Thursday’s earthquake summit.

The Missouri Earthquake Summit, at the St. Louis Science Center, will conclude at 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

The summit is not open to the public.

It’s only for earthquake experts, along with state and national officials.
