Two Area Counties are Hottest Spots in State for Coronavirus Cases

(Fredericktown/Marble Hill) State health officials are issuing a new coronavirus hot spot advisory for two counties in the Regional Radio listening area.

Hospitals in Madison and Bollinger counties are seeing a resource strain from dramatically increased numbers of coronavirus patients and hospitalizations.

As a result, several hospitals in the region are at or near capacity.

The Delta variant, which spreads more easily and poses higher risk of hospitalization than prior variants, is believed to be contributing to the increase, along with a lack of individuals getting vaccinated.

The State says vaccination continues to be the best tool to move past the pandemic.
