(JACKSON, Mo.) – A chance at the state quarterfinals is on the line during Class 2 sectionals in Jackson Wednesday night, and for both the boys and girls teams, the Valle Catholic Warriors will have to go through a stout Oran Eagles team.

In our first game of the night, the Valle boys enter with a 16-12 record after winning their Class 2, District 4 final 36-35 over Brentwood after a buzzer beater went begging.

They face a loaded Oran team that sports a 27-1 record and won the state title just 2 years ago. The Eagles actually defeated the Warriors that same year in districts when both used to reside in Class 2, District 2.

Warriors head coach Tyler Search doesn’t want his team to get into the trap of overthinking things.

Oran only starts one senior, and that senior is the coach’s son.

Eagles head coach Joe Shoemaker says it helps to have Jacob out there leading the way on the court.

The girls’ matchup sees a 14-13 Warriors squad that has won 9 of its last 13 games and used that momentum to win the District 4 championship.

Head coach Davis Grigaitis says Valle has shown they’re as good as any team left in the state tournament.

While not state ranked, 19-6 Oran did receive votes in the latest MBCA poll and made it to the state quarterfinals last year.

Most of that team is back for Eagles head coach Ethan Evans, including Leah Cauble, the all-time leading scorer in Missouri high school history.

The girls game is scheduled to tip off at 7:45. You can hear both games Wednesday with coverage starting at 5:45 on J98.
